Designed for a local South Fremantle family, this house has been a labour of love for the owner who has painstakingly constructed it over a four-year period as an owner-builder to a high level of detail.
It uses innovative residential materials such as R9 prefabricated walling, Cyprus pine cladding that weathers over time and corten steel. A strong ground floor presence is creating with off-form concrete and this is continued inside through detailing and cabinet work.
Due to a sewer easement running at 45 degrees in the middle of the block which needed access, the house developed as two triangular shaped areas downstairs containing living spaces and a rectilinear form for the upstairs bedrooms. The success of this project relied on a close, collaborative engagement with the client and continued support by EHDO during construction.
